Serving as the first dedicated anti-tank guns of Germany, the 3.7cm PaK36 served from 1936 to the end of the war. Phasing out began in 1940 due to its insufficient armour penetration, being replaced from frontal units with the PaK38 (50 mm) and later in 1941 with the PaK40/3 L46 (75 mm). Production ended in 1942 with 20,000 produced, the remaining would go on to be given to German allies, mounted on half-tracks, and serving as secondary line guns until the end of the war.
