A pre-Soviet era naval gun, the Pattern 1911 is a Russian naval gun built for arming destroyers in the Imperial Russian Navy Baltic Fleet. Intended to replace the 75 mm Canet patt.1892, the gun was designed with technical assistance from the British Vickers company at the Obokhuv State plant in 1908 and completed testing the following year. Adopted in 1911, the gun was a standard armament of a variety of destroyers and similar small boats such as guard ships, riverboats, torpedo cruisers, and landing craft built for the Imperial Russian Navy. After the Russian Empire collapsed in 1917, the Pattern 1911 ended up in the hands of Estonia and Finland when they declared independence along with the Soviet Union. In the Soviet Union, the guns were mostly used on holdovers from the earlier Imperial Russian Navy such as the Novik based destroyer classes such as the Frunze of the Derzky class and on later ships designed by the Soviets such as the Groza guard ship of the Uragan class. 48 additional Pattern 1911s were built by the Perm factory in 1921. By the time Germany invaded in 1941, 146 guns were still in the Soviet Navy service, some of which were serving as coastal defense guns.
